Prof Gustavo Malinger

Prof Gustavo Malinger was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and since 1973 resides in Israel. He is married to Dr. Patricia Saavedra and father of 3 children.

Following medical studies at the Hebrew University, Hadassah Medical School and Tel-Aviv University, Sackler School of Medicine he completed his residence in Ob-Gyn at the Edith Wolfson Medical Center in 1989. From 1994 until 2012 he served as Director of the Prenatal Diagnosis Division and co-director of the Fetal Neurology Clinic at WMC. Since 2013 he is Director of OB-GYN Ultrasound Division at Lis Maternity Hospital, the OB-GYN facility of Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center. 

Prof. Malinger is Associated Clinical Professor at Sackler School of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University.

His main field of research is on the fetal brain and has published more than 150 articles and book chapters; including the first descriptions of the normal development of the corpus callosum and the cerebellar vermis; and the findings in fetuses with Congenital Zika Virus Syndrome.

He was Board Member of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology from 2012-2020; member of the Editorial Boards of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Prenatal Diagnosis and Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy; and past president of the Israeli Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

In 2019 he received the ISUOG Stuart Campbell Award for Education. Prof. Malinger is honorary member of AIUM and the OB-GYN US Societies of Argentina, Chile, Hungary and Uruguay.

His book, Ultrasonography of the Prenatal Brain, in collaboration with Ilan Timor, Ana Monteagudo and Gianluigi Pilu was published in 2012 by McGraw-Hill and the 4th edition is planned for 2022.
